  • What makes Mydas Dive Centre the best choice for me?
Mydas is a dive center that is owned and run by divers for divers. Unlike other dive centers we focus on small groups of candidates and guests. Our instructors and guides grew up near the sites in which they practice.
  • What's the difference between a fun dive and training?
It can be said that all dives are fun, including dives that are part of a training program. That is after all the purpose of the diving component of a course. Learning in that context is delivered in a way that is meant to be enjoyable. That said, the actual difference comes down to assessment. The difference between PADI Discover Scuba and Mydas Discover Scuba illustrates this very clearly: Both teach you how to use SCUBA GEAR very thoroughly. The Mydas Discover Scuba has strict depth and supervision constraints on the participant. The PADI Discover Scuba is assessed, which means you may not pass. The PADI Discover Scuba leads to PADI registration that is valid for 1 year. The PADI Discover Scuba can lead to exemptions of some skills in the Open Water Certificate.
  • Why are there no prices advertised in this site?
Mydas prefers to have a 1 : 1 conversation with you about your needs as we prefer to customize our delivery to your needs or the needs of your group. we want you to come back. We do not believe that price can be the only deciding factor and can sometimes conflict with diving outcomes such as dive safety and smaller groups. If pricing is of concern to you we fully disclose what you will get for the price that we give you. If price is of primary concern to you then we strongly recommend that you seek advice on price first and get back to us. We would be more than pleased to build a service that was competitive whilst at the same time not compromise on our standards.

  • Please advise the best dives for us in Bali?
Most of the best dives are located in three broad areas in Bali: a. East: Amed and Tulemben b. South: Nusa Penida and Padangbai and possibly Sanur. c. West: Pemutern and Menjangan. Please browse our website, which has all the maps for the best dives in Bali. If you dive with us, our Logbook also has maps of these sites. Although we specialize in dives in the West, Mydas does also operate in the East and South for our own dive customers. However, if you are recommended to us by another dive center based in the East or South, we recommend that you contact them directly for the East and South diving. In that context, as their partner, we at Mydas manage diving for them in the West of Bali, namely Pemuteran and Menjangan
  • What time would we need to be in Pemuteran for the start of diving?
This decision is largely up to you or your group and your schedule. A three day trip (two nights) is the general recommendation. For Menjangan and Pemuteran we would like to suggest coming up the day before, settling in perhaps doing a night dive across the road or at Jetty if you feel like it. The next day you could get reacquainted with your diving in Pemuteran where the water is always calm and there is plenty to see in dive sites right across the road. The day after that you could go out for as many as 3 dives to Menjangan, where there is what we believe to be the best diving in Bali. On the third day you could either decide to stay and do some more diving or you could return to your base in the South East. If time is a factor for you, Pemuteran dives are less time dependent. For Menjangan activities registration is usually around 08:30 on the day of the dive or snorkelling activity and the boat leaves for the island at around 09:00.
  • How many dives can be done in a day?
This largely depends on your skill, qualification and stamina. Most people do 2 dives per day. Some do 3, especially at Menjangan because there is so many good sites to visit. For some, the third dive is sometimes a night dive. We have two great night dive sites in Pamuteran, Bio-rock, Jetty and Secret Bay. Three dives a day is quite tough if you have to return to your eastern base in the same day but when you are on-site three dives a day are quite achievable. On this point we find that diving on air tends to make you feel more tired than diving on Enriched air. There are several physiological reasons for this. We recommend that you undertake a short PADI Enriched Air course (seen on our website). The theory component lasts for about 2 hours and all your subsequent diving on Enriched air will constitute the practical component to complete the course. Your well-being will love you for it.
  • Can you provide transport from our base in the East and South-east?
The short answer is yes. The Mydas Dive Center can provide end-to-end transportation from your Eastern or South-eastern base to Pemuteran and back. Once your itinerary dates are certain, the transportation can be arranged and included in your diving quote.
  • What is the difference between the Mydas Discover Scuba and the PADI Discover Scuba.
Essentially from a training perspective there is none because of Mydas Standards. You still have to know how to use your Scuba Gear and what you need to do in an emergency. However in the Mydas version you will not be assessed and it does not articulate to the PADI Open Water Course. Nor can you get any credits in the PADI Open Water Course by doing the Mydas Discover Scuba Dive/s. The Mydas Discover Scuba Dives also has strict safety and depth limitations.
  • Is it possible to stay and how much would it be?
In Pamuteran, the Mydas Dive Centre is located on the Badini premises. Badini is a well respected hotel and restaurant run by one of the first families to settle in Pemuteran. Their room rate is currently Rp, 250,000 IDR ($17.25 USD) per night per room. If you want an extra bed it is Rp, 100,000 ($6.90 USD) per night per room. So you could take two rooms, one with an extra bed or three rooms. This rate includes breakfast and internet. The on-premises restaurant is available to you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snacks are provided for your diving. Badini provides both Indonesian and Western Food. Their club sandwich, fish and potato wedges are amazing. In town, we have a villa that you can rent. It is located in Jimbaran just off the Jimbaran Beach and not far from the airport. So if your plane arrives late. We can pick you up at the airport and you can stay overnight. We can arrange for you to leave for Pemuteran the next day when you are more rested.
  • What is a PIC and is it included in the cost of the course?
In order to receive your PADI certification upon completion of your course, you must fill out a "Positive Identification Card" or "PIC card". Your instructor will then send it to PADI. PADI uses this card to register you in their system and to issue your PADI Certification Card as proof of a successful completion of the course requirements. By using this application, the instructor certifies that all persons being so registered have been trained to a proficiency level acceptable to PADI for the specific certification(s) requested and have completed all requirements, including any required open water training. Unless specifically noted, the cost of the PIC is included in the cost of your course. You are strongly advised to confirm this with your instructor who is in the best position to advise you. Here are the PADI Recreational Diving Courses that require a PIC: 1. Open Water Certificate. 2. Advanced Open Water 3. Emergency First Aid Responder 4. Rescue Diver 5. Speciality Courses (such as Deep, Navigation, Enriched Air etc) NOTE: The PADI Discover Scuba results in a PADI registration DOES NOT require a PIC. NOTE Also, A PADI PIC generally means that the course is also associated with eLearning.
  • If I forgot to bring my PADI certification card with me, will I still be able to dive?"
Generally yes. If you are already registered with PADI® Mydas will check on-line to ensure that you are qualified to dive the proposed dive-plan. Mydas will also remind you to bring any cards that you have, with you along with your log-book.
  • What is the Integration Path between the PADI Discover Scuba and Open Water Certificates
There are essentially two Options: Option 1: If you (the instructor) conduct and ensure that participants master Open Water Diver course Confined Water Dive 1 skills during the Discover Scuba Diving program, participants are eligible for Confined Water Dive 1 credit. If you (the instructor) go on to brief and conduct the full Open Water Dive 1 with the participants who have mastered Confined Water Dive 1 skills, they are eligible to get credit for completing Open Water Dive 1. If participants go on to enroll in an Open Water Diver course with you, have them complete required administrative documents and ensure they have the required course materials. You initial that they’ve completed Confined Water Dive 1and, if applicable, Open Water Dive 1 on the Student Record File (10058) or on the Open Water Diver Course Record and Referral Form (10056). Participants can use the referral document if continuing training elsewhere. Option 2: The key to this option is to ensure you keep track of which skills the participant completes during your DSD confined water session and optional open water dive (if conducted). If the participant then enrolls in your PADI Open Water Diver course, begin Confined Water Dive 1 with the skills not yet mastered as part of the original DSD confined water session. Once those skills have been mastered, move on to Confined Water Dive 2 skills as listed. Similarly, if the participant completed the optional open water dive with you as part of the DSD experience, to give credit follow this procedure: Once the student has completed at least Confined Water Dive 3 and is ready for Open Water Dive 2, complete all the skills listed in Open Water Dive 1 first, before moving on to Dive 2 skills. The following BLOG explains it very clearly If you have questions about these two options, contact your PADI Regional Training Consultant.
  • What is PADI eLearning?
What is PADI eLearning? PADI Electronic learning (eLearning) relates to the delivery of the theoretical knowledge development component of a PADI course using your mobile device or web browser at your convenience and pace, anywhere, anytime and finish the practical component of your training in the water with a PADI Professional. Apart from the obvious, eLearning is a great tool to complete the theoretical component of a PADI course before you start the practical component if for example you are on holiday and have limited time. In beginner courses if you are not able to complete the eLearning but have completed the in-water skills successfully, you have up to 1 year to complete your eLearning. Most students finish it before the practical component and / or within a month of completing the in-water skills successfully. Discuss with your instructor the integration of eLearning with the practical component of your course.
